TTC is proud to welcome an artist who we’ve been wanting to bring to Sheffield for a long time, a DJ duo who, in 2015, released their debut album ‘Portraits’ to critical acclaim, toured the world with their live band, and joined BBC Radio1’s residency… Maribou State!

Despite growing up in the same picturesque village in Hertfordshire, Chris Davids and Liam Ivory aka Maribou State customarily ignored each other at school, but discovered their shared passion for music when they both went to University.

Since then they have steadily built a glowing international reputation via a string of well-loved EPs and a fistful of remixes

The past 2 years have been a glorious blur, with weekends dedicated to touring – the duo have zipped around the UK, Europe, the US and Australia – whilst keeping a strict 9-to-5 work ethic in the studio during the week. This has enabled them to record their finest work to date, in their self-built studio the ‘Shack In The Back’. It’s hard to pick out highlights, but a road-blocked set at Glastonbury was a particularly special milestone for the duo.

Intrigued by the dynamics of electronic music for the dancefloor as much as with the richness and human quality of live instrumentation and song-craft, they have worked tirelessly to evolve and forge a unique, compelling and deeply soulful marriage of the organic and the synthetic, showcased on their debut album Portraits.

Following in the footsteps of James Blake, Flying Lotus, Kaytranada and Jon Hopkins, Maribou State joined BBC Radio 1’s Residency, where they now host a monthly Thursday night show featuring the best in soul-infused electronic grooves. They were also invited to join the hall of fame that is the legendary Essential Mix, turning in an incredible selection of music for the first mix of 2016.

2016 sees Maribou State and Pedestrian coming together to launch Dama Dama, a label that will serve as a forum to showcase and champion music that has seen them carve out their own niche over recent years. The debut vinyl & digital release from the Dama Dama label comes from co-founder Pedestrian in the shape of “Circadian Rhythms” – a 4 track concept EP. Each track represents a different time of day throughout the 24 hour cycle, with the 12” divided into a “Day Side” and a “Night Side” with the EP’s closing number a collaboration with label co-founders Maribou State. Pedestrian will also be joining us tonight to help launch the new label at The Tuesday Club!

Also joining us tonight we have local DJ and Producer, and Night Kitchen resident, Pedram!

“Based in Sheffield, in what is arguably the most original electronic music capital of the UK, Pedram can be found making his unique blend of bleeps and beats in a top-floor studio looking over the city centre. Now part of James Zabiela’s Born Electric family, and with the excellent Nina/Immaturity release already under his belt, he’s starting to seriously make a name for himself amongst music lovers.

After dropping his debut on the Born Electric imprint, Pedram immediately gained worldwide interest and made fans of many DJs and producers alike. He can count Midland, George Fitzgerald, Dusky, Paul Woolford and Nic Fanciulli amongst many early supporters of his musical output. Not just a producer Pedram is also an excellent DJ, with his skills showcased across Europe at ‘Exit Club’ in Vilnius, Lithuania, ‘Electric Castle’ in Cluj, Romania, ‘Razzmatazz’ in Barcelona as well on home turf with a residency at one of Sheffield’s most unique warehouse spots, The Night Kitchen, a slot at Glastonbury and a 2 hour weekly slot on newly launched radio station UK Mondo.

He is set to turn more heads and tweak more ears with his next E.P. ‘LEX’, out in February 2016 on Born Electric, along with a collaborative release with ‘Matic Mouth’ on newly founded Sheffield imprint CGM.
